Life Coaching and Coaching
A. Definitions
Life Coaching is a career and an ethical
profession. The life coach uses the power of commitment to enable their clients
to achieve beneficial and measurable results in all places of their lives. Life
coaching is a holistic process that has the power to balance and harmonise life.
( Life Coaching is about transformation – from a caterpillar into a butterfly.
Life coaching is about gap analysis that closes the gap between life and dreams.
Life coaching can be compared to motorway maintenance and construction. It fills
and removes the ruts of life to build a smooth surface. Then life’s journey
takes the traveler to the destinations that they really want to visit, rather
than remain in the slow lane of inactivity , drifting without purpose or
direction. ).
(See : Note 1 )
Coaching is the process of helping people
enhance or improve their performance through reflection on how they apply a
specific skill and/or knowledge.
Development is a continuous process of growing and learning; by developing, we
continuously become more than we were.
(See : Note 2 )
B. Specializations in Life Coaching ( See Note 1 )
| 1. | Relationship Life Coach | Specialise in the areas of family, community, workplace and general relationships. Core skills are the same as for general life coach. Belief that clients have the resources and answers within themselves. Able to practice detached noninvolvement . |
| 2. | Wealth Coach |
Does not concentrate on the amount of
income that the client can generate, although this is a large part of
the discussions. Helps the client to identify his concept of wealth and
the meaning that the word contains for that individual. Need to
understand the Client’s values and patterns. E.g. if a client believes
that most rich people are crooks or that he or she is not worthy of
owning riches, then as soon as they become rich they will be in conflict
with a belief. The belief will eventually manifest itself either by the
client becoming a crook or losing the riches. The Wealth Coach should have good healthy beliefs about wealth generation and distribution. Believe that every client can be as wealthy as they want to be. Separate role from that of a Financial Adviser . |
| 3. | Health Coach | There are many different aspects . For clients to be fully healthy they need a balanced diet and some form of exercise. The Coach must “ walk the talk.”. Understanding of nutrition or a background in physical education. Be an example of good health yourself. |
| 4. | Spiritual Coach | Can be religious in the traditional sense in a particular religion. Or can be in the form of guidance or contribution . Contribution angle of spiritual life coaching is based on the belief that to receive fulfillment , you need to give your time, expertise or finance. This form of life coaching focuses on how the client can contribute to the “greater good” in some way – pathway to total contentment. The spiritual life coach links success and happiness with contribution, one needing the other to produce the whole – whole being holistic and holy. |
| 5. | Career Coach | Spends time on career planning, development of skills to reach the career goals, and the planning of strategies for necessary for career success. Career life coaching would spend the largest amount of time on the career – up to 75 %, say – with a lesser amount on the other topics according to need. The Coach could use Career Profiling or psychological assessment tests as an aid to the coaching programme. |
